Hi, I’m Hans, and I’m currently studying International Business in my fourth semester. Last February, I had the opportunity to participate in a five-month exchange semester at the Széchenyi István Egyetem University in Györ, Hungary. I traveled with two other DHBW students, but I was the only one staying in the student residence. When I arrived, the receptionist gave me my keys and explained everything I needed to know about living there.
Györ is a medium-sized city in Hungary, located in the northwest of the country, 80 km from Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, 124 km from Vienna, the capital of Austria, and 121 km from Budapest, the capital of Hungary. This city is in a good location on the map if you plan to travel and visit nearby countries.
After an introductory day at the university and the campus, we went to class. The class schedule was different, but with a few explanations and conversations with the professors, we were able to adapt easily. The class schedule and days off allowed for a more relaxed study experience, allowing for several activities, if not trips, throughout the week.
Aside from my studies, through various classes and living in the student dorm, I was able to meet many people from many countries whom I now consider family. Together, we were able to travel to more than seven countries and experience different cultures, from the canals of Venice, the Parliament of Budapest, the Monastery in Montenegro, to the Acropolis in Athens.
After this exchange semester, I am amazed at everything I was able to do from Györ. I am amazed by all the trips, games, friendships, and memories I made. I took away a great deal of knowledge about different cultures and traditions, but also friends whom I now consider family. The exchange semester in Györ is definitely one of the highlights of my studies.
