On March 18, we—the first-year trainees John-David Fries, Alexander Pfeil, Melissa Schmidt, Lara Nelles, and Emma Übelhör—had the opportunity to participate in the Azubi Fit Day, an event organized by the Barmer health insurance company. The event took place at the Hakro Merlins’ arena in Crailsheim, in collaboration with the team. As a result, the day revolved around basketball, health, and insurance.
The event began with opening remarks from the two organizers. We had the opportunity to meet two of the club’s players and ask them questions. Afterward, we took pictures with them and got their autographs.
After a few warm-up games, we were divided into groups and rotated through various stations. During this time, we were able to practice shooting, passing, and dribbling. We also had the opportunity to consult with Barmer staff about health and insurance issues. In addition, we were given a detailed tour of the Merlins’ arena.
To wrap things up, we had lunch together, where everyone could fill their own wrap with a variety of healthy ingredients.
The event was a welcome change from our usual work routine. The day was very informative but also exhausting; still, everyone had a great time. We were also very excited to receive an invitation to the Merlins’ next game.
