Hello,
my name is Melina Gensler, I am 22 years old and started my dual studies in Business Administration-Digital Business Management at TecAlliance GmbH in Weikersheim in September 2019. In the following report I would like to tell you what I have experienced in the past 5 months.
It all started in September with the onboarding. Since there is a separate blog entry for this, I don’t want to go into it in detail.
At the beginning of October I started my studies at the DHBW Mosbach – Campus Bad Mergentheim. Besides the introduction day and the Ersti-Party we were allowed to participate in an excursion to the Heilbronner Bundesgartenschau already on the second day. There we were supposed to “search” for digitalisation and later on we had to explain to our fellow students in form of a presentation in which areas the BUGA digitalised. My lectures in the first three months consisted mainly of economic basics such as business administration, economics, financial accounting, law etc. In addition, we had lectures on supply chain management and digital business management, in which we were introduced to terms such as Big Data, Blockchain and Internet of Things. In addition, there were weekly lectures by representatives of various companies who explained to us where and how digitalization is implemented in their companies (among others, Dr. Florian Schwarz and Christian Krause were also present at DHBW). The lectures in Marketing and Economics are in English.
In the course of my first semester I already had to produce some presentations and papers, for example a seminar paper about machine learning and its implementation at TecAlliance GmbH.
Since January 2020 I am in my practical phase. It started with learning the basics of HTML and JavaScript together with the other students and trainees from the first year. Afterwards we were taught Java. As my course of studies does not include programming, I had the opportunity to assist Jens Paul in the Sales Development department in the preparation of cost and profit forecasts.
At the beginning of February I will be going to Cologne for one week to work in the Sales Service department. At the end of February I will go to Munich to work in the purchasing department. I’m really looking forward to getting to know the other locations and gaining new experience before I have to go back to the DHBW in March.
