Last week, on Oc­to­ber 9, 2025, I was in­vi­ted to a care­er speed da­ting event at Wei­kers­heim High School. At this event, all up­per school stu­dents have the op­por­tu­ni­ty to talk to ex­perts from va­rious pro­fes­si­ons in 20-mi­nu­te in­ter­vals. Ex­perts from com­mer­cial, tech­ni­cal, and IT pro­fes­si­ons were pre­sent. Speed da­ting en­ables stu­dents to en­ga­ge in di­rect con­ver­sa­ti­on with ex­perts and gain in­sights into their pro­fes­si­ons and ever­y­day lives. 

The event be­gan with a wel­co­me ad­dress by the school ma­nage­ment and the dis­trict mas­ter craft­sman. This was fol­lo­wed by a group pho­to of all the ex­perts and stu­dents in the au­di­to­ri­um. Then the first round of dis­cus­sions be­gan. The­re were four rounds of dis­cus­sions in to­tal. In the fourth round of pre­sen­ta­ti­ons, I had the op­por­tu­ni­ty to pre­sent the IT spe­cia­list app­ren­ti­ce­ship to th­ree in­te­res­ted stu­dents, tog­e­ther with a trai­ner and an app­ren­ti­ce from Würth IT. 

Af­ter a brief round of in­tro­duc­tions, we tal­ked about our dai­ly li­ves, op­por­tu­ni­ties to stu­dy ab­road, and vo­ca­tio­nal school. We then dis­cus­sed the va­rious job op­por­tu­ni­ties that can ari­se af­ter suc­cessful­ly com­ple­ting vo­ca­tio­nal training. The stu­dents as­ked us ques­ti­ons to gain more in­sight into our dai­ly li­ves. Af­ter 20 mi­nu­tes, the ses­si­on was over, and I made my way home.

Care­er speed da­ting is a gre­at event that gi­ves stu­dents in­sight into dif­fe­rent pro­fes­si­ons and of­fers them the op­por­tu­ni­ty to en­ga­ge in di­rect dia­lo­gue with experts.
