Data En­gi­neer

Be­fo­re my fi­nal prac­ti­cal pha­se be­gan, I had to ap­p­ly for a po­si­ti­on and thus make a clear de­cis­i­on: What did I want to fo­cus on in­ten­si­ve­ly in my pro­fes­sio­nal life, and in which di­rec­tion should I de­ve­lop fur­ther? The role as a Data En­gi­neer see­med like the right fit for me, as I had al­re­a­dy dealt with data pro­ces­sing and ETL pro­ces­ses du­ring my dual stu­dies and was en­thu­si­a­stic about them. Af­ter the suc­cessful job in­ter­view, I joi­n­ed the PSDS team (Pro­duct & Source Data Stan­dar­diza­ti­on) for my fi­nal prac­ti­cal pha­se, whe­re I also wro­te my ba­che­lor’s the­sis. Sub­se­quent­ly, I of­fi­ci­al­ly joi­n­ed the team as a Data En­gi­neer on Oc­to­ber 1, 2022.

My first task in­vol­ved ana­ly­sing and trans­forming Maz­da data—an ent­ry point that I now look back on as va­luable. On one hand, it gave me a sud­den in­sight into the team­’s core com­pe­ten­ci­es and dai­ly tasks; on the other, it al­lo­wed me to deepen my SQL skills and gain new per­spec­ti­ves on working with re­la­tio­nal databases.

As part of the res­truc­tu­ring in the BU In­for­ma­ti­on Ma­nage­ment, I mo­ved to the IT & Data Ser­vices team in the IM Di­gi­ta­liza­ti­on Ser­vices di­vi­si­on. The­re, I dis­co­ver­ed my deep in­te­rest in soft­ware de­ve­lo­p­ment. This rea­liza­ti­on mo­ti­va­ted me to take the leap into Busi­ness IT and suc­cessful­ly steer my pro­fes­sio­nal path toward soft­ware en­gi­nee­ring. Sin­ce July 2024, I have been as­si­gned to the Sys­tem & En­ter­pri­se Ar­chi­tec­tu­re Team and am working on the ba­ckend of a soft­ware pro­ject. Tog­e­ther with the team, we sol­ve busi­ness pro­blems by con­ti­nuous­ly ad­ap­ting the soft­ware func­tion­a­li­ties to new cus­to­mer requirements—that’s our cen­tral fo­cus. Just as I had ho­ped, much of it re­vol­ves around hands-on co­ding, com­ple­men­ted by clo­se col­la­bo­ra­ti­on with AWS ser­vices to crea­te sca­lable and ef­fi­ci­ent solutions.

I look for­ward to the up­co­ming chal­lenges and the con­ti­nuous lear­ning in this dy­na­mic en­vi­ron­ment, which of­fers me space for per­so­nal and pro­fes­sio­nal growth.
