Experience report Hanna
Data Engineer

Before my final practical phase began, I had to apply for a position and thus make a clear decision: What did I want to focus on intensively in my professional life, and in which direction should I develop further? The role as a Data Engineer seemed like the right fit for me, as I had already dealt with data processing and ETL processes during my dual studies and was enthusiastic about them. After the successful job interview, I joined the PSDS team (Product & Source Data Standardization) for my final practical phase, where I also wrote my bachelor’s thesis. Subsequently, I officially joined the team as a Data Engineer on October 1, 2022.
My first task involved analysing and transforming Mazda data—an entry point that I now look back on as valuable. On one hand, it gave me a sudden insight into the team’s core competencies and daily tasks; on the other, it allowed me to deepen my SQL skills and gain new perspectives on working with relational databases.
As part of the restructuring in the BU Information Management, I moved to the IT & Data Services team in the IM Digitalization Services division. There, I discovered my deep interest in software development. This realization motivated me to take the leap into Business IT and successfully steer my professional path toward software engineering. Since July 2024, I have been assigned to the System & Enterprise Architecture Team and am working on the backend of a software project. Together with the team, we solve business problems by continuously adapting the software functionalities to new customer requirements—that’s our central focus. Just as I had hoped, much of it revolves around hands-on coding, complemented by close collaboration with AWS services to create scalable and efficient solutions.
I look forward to the upcoming challenges and the continuous learning in this dynamic environment, which offers me space for personal and professional growth.
