Data Engineer

Before my last practical phase started, I had to apply for a job and thus decide what I wanted to deal with in my professional life and in which direction I wanted to develop further. The position of data engineer seemed to be the right one for me, as I had already dealt with data processing and ETL processes during my dual studies and was enthusiastic about them. After the successful interview, I joined the PSDS team (Product & Source Data Standardisation) for the final practical phase, where I wrote my bachelor’s thesis. I then officially joined the team as a Data Engineer on 1 October 2022.

As my first task, I was assigned the analysis and transformation of Mazda data. Personally, I think that was a good start. On the one hand, it became clear to me what the main activities and tasks of the team are, and on the other hand, I was able to deepen my SQL knowledge and gain new knowledge in the field of relational databases.

After starting, I continued with programming tasks. Together with the other colleagues, I worked on creating the visualisation tool “DataGuide” for the TecDoc data. During the implementation process, I dealt with Python and various Python libraries, AWS S3 and the topic of web hosting. Currently, I take care of the maintenance and monthly updates of the visualisation tool. In parallel, I am allowed to contribute to the automation of the data processing procedures in order to reduce the manual work and thus the time required to carry out these processes.

In connection with the restructuring of the Information Management BU, I joined the IT&Data Services team of the IM Digitalisation Services unit. The team is responsible for providing professional and standardised support for projects and IT and data queries. I am very excited about my new role, the tasks I get to work on and the challenges I face.
