Hi, I’m Adrian. I am studying business informatics in Mosbach and am currently in my practical phase in Weikersheim. At the moment I am writing my first project work with the topic “Evaluation of translation tools for the unified translation of GUI texts to support TecAlliance GmbH in a purchase decision”. This may sound a bit incomprehensible, but to put it in a nutshell: I am trying to find out whether it makes sense for us to supplement an existing software with which we translate our texts into 35 different languages with additional tools.
In order to gain a better insight into potential tools, I was allowed to travel to Stuttgart on Wednesday, 10.07.2019 in a company car to participate in a workshop of the company SDL. There we were primarily introduced to the Passolo tool. With this tool it would be possible for us to set ID markers in our web pages which, for example, when a web page is called up, are indicated by the selected language.
Another very interesting tool that was discussed was Rigi. This is an add-in for Passolo that can be used to take screenshots of the application or website. Then you can directly translate the texts in the screenshots, generate language files from them and integrate them into the respective application as texts.
It was also interesting to meet the people I was allowed to work with on the project. For example, I met my project supervisor from TecAlliance, who works in Cologne, but also external people from SDL or Boxma IT, with whom I have had frequent contact.
I particularly liked the fact that I had the opportunity to get to know the application possibilities of the software from other companies and to get in touch with different people and I hope that I will soon have the opportunity to participate in such an event again.
