Insights in the course of study online media

My name is Theresa and I started my dual studies at TecAlliance in September in the realm of online media. This course was offered for the first time by TecAlliance in October 2019. For the theory phase, I move every few months from Weikersheim to Mosbach. I am currently in my second semester and have survived my second theoretical phase at DHBW.
All in all, I have courses about design as well as computer science. This includes the basic knowledge of programming with Java and website building (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc.). Very interesting were the lectures about Web Usability, which also dealt with psychological aspects of a website. In the second semester the course Statistics brings even more variety. This course was particularly comprehensible due to its practical relevance and the focus on web analytics systems. The course of studies does not only include theoretical learning, but also a lot of project and group work. By working in a community it is up to each student to specialize in a certain area and to deepen their own knowledge. This semester a group task was to build a picture gallery like “Unsplash” with the help of a CMS (Content-Management-System, in this case Drupal). In my course of studies there are not so many classical examination achievements in the form of exams but frequently graded projects. A larger project, which is coming Here it will be our task (again in groups) to produce a documentary film about a person from the Mosbach area with an exciting life story.
In the practical phases, I can partly put my learned knowledge into practice, for example in film projects, the redesign of the blog or also in the creation of new e‑learning courses, which will be the subject of my first project work. I will partly write this project work at our location in Cologne, which is also a great opportunity to see something different and to explore a new city.
All in all, I like the content of my studies very much, because they enable me to implement many interesting things that are also very relevant and in demand today. Nevertheless, there are also downsides to my studies, since so many different areas are to be covered (marketing, project management, design, psychology, computer science and technology), I have a rough understanding of the topics, but I do not feel that I am a “professional” in one of these areas.
