On 02.11. voluntary apprentices and students from all apprenticeship years met to bake gingerbread angels for a good cause together with the project choir Schrozberg at the company “Manz Backtechnik”.
The event started at 9:00 a.m. with the goal of baking 1,000 angels. After the group picture it went to the distribution of tasks. In the kitchen the task was to knead the dough, roll it out, cut out the gingerbread and bake it afterwards. The rest of the team were responsible for decorating the angels, whose wings were painted with icing sugar and the face, hat and sherpe, which consisted of a mass of egg white, icing sugar and food colouring, were attached.
At 11:45 at noon there were string sausages, boiled eggs, various spreads and rolls. Everyone was sitting together in a cozy circle and the atmosphere was good. Afterwards everyone went back to their group to work on the angels.
Despite the seemingly never-ending dough, the atmosphere in the groups was good and you got to know people with whom you have little contact in everyday life. After around 18:00 clock the ingredients for the decoration ran out and most angels were already packed, many started the deserved way home and the group shrank. The remaining ones took care of the rest of the ready to bake angels until 20:00 o’clock was the end of the day and it was time for the long awaited closing time.
Today we got the news that we managed to bake more than 1500 angels and thus far exceeded our goal. We were happy that the exhausting day was worth it.
The angels will be sold at local Christmas markets and on 15 November at REWE in Bad Mergentheim. The proceeds will go to the “Heart Sick Children in the Children’s Hospital in Tübingen”.
Many thanks to all the helpers for this great and successful day!
